this one's for sao paulo

today i was feeling a bit emo for stupid reasons. i decided to cheer myself up by carrying out a plan i've been thinking about for a few days, well since i realised how many hooks there were in my walls at least. i went and bought some cute and cheap photo frames, and got some of my favourite pictures of y'all printed out. this also gives me a good opportunity to show you what my room looks like, so here we go!

the first one to hang up was my favourite photo that has me in it. me and my work spouse jimmy james drunk at the 07 christmas party. we're hard motherfuckers, you don't want to mess with us.

next is james and our good friend vanessa from the other christmas party we went to that year. we were even drunker at that one than the first one.

to the left of that photo is my homeslice melanie, lookin hot at homebake.

then we move on to my shelves where we have the delightful evan. i know you can't see his face, but this photo reminds me of good times, so up it goes.

to the left of evan sits the triangle of awesome. my mum, erin and rach. the photo of my mum is a bit dark, but that photo makes me laugh every time i see it, and it reminds me of the good times we had on our road trip, so i love it.

last stop on our photo tour is miss sooky. this one was taken just after we got her, she's a whole lot cheekier now than back then.

and as a bonus, here's some pictures of my room!

i got my hair cut today too. no photos cause it's pretty much the same as last time. it was annoying the fuck out of me because if i didn't spike it up it looked like i had a mullet, but then the top wouldn't sit properly and blah blah hair angst. i'm not sure if i like new hair yet either, it's shorter than i've ever had it. but one of my housemates said it looked hot, so hopefully she's right.

i have a interview tomorrow for a job i would really like to get, so wish me luck!

adventures in food

i was going to just twitter this, but it was a bit too long, so here we are in blog town.

today i went to cardiff market. i'll really have to go back and take pictures, because for a market it was really beautiful. and there was so much beautiful produce and gourmet meats. oh man, you should've seen the brawn. i was salivating looking at this brawn. it looked nothing like the shit we get at coles. there was actual visable chunks of meat suspended in jelly. i wanted to run and buy some fresh bread, some butter and some pickles and eat like a million sandwiches. i will have to go back and do that soon.

i ended up getting some welsh cakes, which are like mini scones with sultanas in them, then covered in sugar. delicious.

there was hot food stand, and had signs up saying they sold faggots. opposite there were all these old blokes sitting around eating things that looked like rissoles, with mashed potato, peas and gravy. i took it that the rissole things were faggots. i was thinking about getting them, but it was like a sit down meal and i wanted something to take away. i ended up with a bacon cheeseburger which was fucking delicious.

so i came home and wikigoogled faggots. turns out that it was a good thing i didn't get them, because they're made with pork offal. it sounds gross. i draw the line at black pudding when it comes to disgusting english food. speaking of, you should've seen the black pudding they had at the markets, nom nom nom. i can't wait to get some and fry it up with some bacon and eggs, and lots of tomato sauce.

matters of water

it's official. the water in this country makes me sick. no, i did not go to india or ethopia or anywhere else where you can sponsor kiddies for 30 bucks a month. i am in the united kingdom. a first world country full of whiteys and what i can only assume is not a contaminated drinking supply, yet if i drink water straight from the tap, i get the runs. i lived through the bug outbreak of the mid 90's in sydney where we had to boil all our water. we didn't and i didn't get sick. but here, i'm screwed.

the first time it happened, i had been filling up a bottle from the tap in the bathroom before bed. but the next day i was in marks and spencer and had an "oh fuck me. this isn't going to end well" moment. it was like when kenny gave his dad abortion pills in that episode of south park. luckily there was a bathroom near by and nothing went majorly wrong. i told my mum and she suggested it might be the water. i thought she was overreacting, but i started drinking only bottled water after that, and no more stomach dramz for me.

yesterday i got to cardiff and decided that seeing i was out of the big city, and there was all nice farm land around, that the water must be a bit cleaner and i should give it another go. so i did the same fill up the water bottle before bed thing. and wouldn't you know, almost exactly the same thing happened. except this time i was in dorothy perkins and not m&s.

i've spoken to some of the other aussies here, and they said they haven't had a problem. it must just be me. looks like i'll be either boiling, or sticking to the bottled stuff from now on.

in a strange co-incidence, i applied for a job with the water company today. maybe i'll have to get them to sort something out for me.

now to non ass related news. as mentioned earlier, i got to cardiff yesterday. so far i love it. the hostel i'm staying at is lovely and right by the river. the town is really pretty and has this awesome castle right in the middle of it. and i think i've found a really great place to live. there's a rugby game on across the river [like literally. the stadium is about 50 metres away] this weekend. wales vs italy. apparently the place goes nuts, but in a good way. i'm looking forward to it. i'm also looking forward to going to clwb ilfor bach to see some live music again very soon.

london update number 2

isn't it funny that i am on the other side of the world, and seeing so many new and exciting things each day, but i've put off writing a blog entry for the last couple of days because i feel like i have nothing to say. i think it's because i've been emailing a few people rather than blogging, and it all seems like old news by the time i get around to woundedkite.com. perhaps i should start copying the emails i send here to keep the rest of you in the loop.

anyway, i've been in london for over a week now, and what a week it's been. i've walked and walked and walked. i've seen so many tourist attractions, and ones that i didn't even know existed. i've been out with friends of friends that i've never met, people from my hostel who i've only just met, and by myself. there's an australian themed pub just up the road from my hostel, so i went there the other day to watch some rugby league. i managed to get into an arguement with a guy in a manly jersey because i was supporting leeds and not manly. but only because leeds is danny buderus's new club. what do you know? even so far from home, manly fans are still dickheads.

i'm looking forward to heading to cardiff and setting up a permanent base and even, gasp, getting a job. this is my fourth week of unemployment and i'm getting a bit bored. i haven't been without work for so long since uni. i'm thinking about trying to get a job in a clothes shop or something. i don't know why, but retail seems like it might be a good change of pace for me.

so now i'm off to camden. i've been saying all week that i was going to go and check out the markets and stuff, and today i'm finally doing it. then on friday i have bought train tickets and i'm off on an excursion down to brighton for the day. hopefully it's nice.

oh internets, i need to tell you one annecdote before i depart. last night after i got off the tube, i sat at mcdonalds for a while and used their intertubes before heading back to my hostel. the wifi there only works in the lounge, and at the moment there's a whole bunch of german high school students staying in the dorms, so it's actually quieter at mcdonalds. anyway as i was heading home, this old guy dressed in a council uniform and pushing a street sweeper thing stopped me and said he was watching me while i was at maccas, and that i was beautiful and just his type of girl. short hair and intellectual. apparently the laptop makes me intellectual. he then asked for my email address. good to see my nerdish ways are attractive to someone, even if it is crazy old street sweepers.
