nobody new, just passing through

the new uk working holiday visa, or youth mobility scheme as it's now called, started yesterday. i'm glad i waited because it's a much better deal. about half the price of the other visa, and you can work for the entire length of your stay. also the rumour that you had to have no less than the equivalent of 1600 pounds in your bank account for three months has proved to be false, and you only have to have that about at the time you apply.

it's now within three months of my planned departure date, so i can apply for my visa at any time. i might do it next week because they'll close for christmas which will delay things.

i was in the shower just before. and because the shower is where i do all my thinking, and in turn crying, it came into my head that the next boy i fall for is going to be an indie boy who lives in cardiff. and i will be there in three months. and it hit me like a tonne of bricks.

this is the scariest thing i've ever done. scarier than moving to a country town at 17 to follow my dream. one that i still have, but i tell myself, and everyone else that it's gone. that i've lost the passion. when really all i lost was ambition and dedication. did i even have them to begin with? and much scarier than moving across the city to be all adult and move in with my boyfriend.

but as scary as it is, it's so much more exciting and brilliant. i can't fucking wait to walk around cardiff bay, and go to spiller records and the castle. and catch a train to liverpool to watch my favourite footballer in the whole world matthew gidley play one last time. then i'm going to go to so many places i've read and dreamt about. tallinn and riga and across to helsinki. dresden, ypres and auschwitz. barcelona and towns in france to see my dear nada surf.

i can't wait to live in a share house with other travellers, or with students, and drink lots and make all kinds of new friends.

i hope it all lives up to my expectations.

when i was planning this entry in the shower, i was going to divert into a whinge about work. but you know what? it's not worth it. the first week in february is going to be my last week, so that's just over two months. it's not worth working myself up over something that i will be free from in such a short amount of time. whatever happens there happens, i'll not stress about it. and i know that i will always have a place there if i want when i get back. or in the melbourne office.

oh man, there's so much to buy and to organise before i leave. that's not something i want to think about.

better go to bed. i'm doing the body pump/combat double at the gym tomorrow. and after a late night last night out to see the basics and an early start this morning, i'm wiped.
