sitting on the fence like a school boy waiting
i was not one of the 600. but every other department on my floor is gone.
they were made to clear their desks and leave by the end of the day.
it almost felt like survivor guilt. sitting there, business as usual, as people around me had their lives turned upside down.
our department is classified as one of those non-core assets. so we will be sold off soon.
we've been assured that our jobs are safe. but i'll guess we'll see.

a mumble of nervous words
but then i realised that i don't remember the last time that i cried. so life can't be that bad. in fact, it's pretty darn rad.

marieke hardy is a cunt
i don't care that the muse song was released in 2006. in the first countdown fuckin joy division won, and ian curtis had been dead for years.
i do care, however, that their lead singer is a mouth breather.
i am happy that they won, because it means that silverchair didn't.
i went to circular quay this eve to see something for kate. it was pretty rockin. dempsey looked hot and they played lots of good songs.
the crowd was a complete juxtaposition. there were these drunk metal dudes head banging and trying to crowd surf. then there were these little kids sans parents, sitting up the front waving australian flags.
i need to write about seeing martin craft on thursday night. that can wait until tomorrow.

Nom nom
Your complimentary sausage sizzle almost, almost makes up for the half hour extra per day it took me to get home each day during the track work over the last few weeks. You're lucky it was a tasty sausage, cause now my train is late

your hair that you twirled in your fingers
you see, my hair is really, really thick. to combat this and to ensure it doesn't take 15 hours for it to dry each morning, i get it layered. but layering means that it isn't heavy enough to fall straight, and instead it gets a few waves and generally looks HORRIBLE. even blow drying won't get all the waves out. i need to straighten it for it to be truly straight.
however, because i am incredibly lazy, there's probably only 1 day a week where i can be bothered drying my hair, and i only straighten it on really special occasions. so most of the time it looks like ass and i just put it back in a pony tail.
last night i was thinking about what i could do to make the waves go away, while still being as lazy as possible. then i had the brilliant idea to work with the waves and not against them. so i'm considering the perm. but i still have some reservations. i had a perm in 1994, and people referred to my hair as 2 minute noodles.
needless to say, i want to look more like this:

and less like this:

is this even possible? or would it be just as much work to maintain as being a straighty? what i would ultimately like is jump out of the shower, a few scrunches of the hair with some product and away i go. also will it react with my coloured hair? hmm, i guess these are questions for my hair dresser and not the internets. but do you think i should do it?

caws-love friday

we're turning the clock back all the way to 1996 for todays popular themed caws-love friday. the caws was young, fresh and ready to take over the world via mtv. we all know how the story goes from there. one hit wonders in most people's eyes. dropped from their major after producing a soft and melodic sophomore album that the mainstream wasn't ready for. still hanging around thanks to a big european fanbase and suport from death cab's old label, barsuk.
either way the caws looks very hot in this film clip. so does ira for that matter. go check it out on youtubes.

fergalicious
when i first started one of the personal trainers spent 45 minutes showing me how all the equipment worked and made sure i was comfortable using it all. i don't know, this might be a standard thing, but it never happened at fitness first. so i was much more confident to start using weights, not just the treadmill.
the best part is though, about 75% percent of the girls i've seen working out are just like me, chubby and unco. and there's lots of bogans. there's even a few muslim girls who train wearing the hijab and long sleeved shirts. i don't feel self conscious at all.
so all in all i've been really excited to go to the gym. after i came home today i realised to much i was looking forward to going back tomorrow. we'll see, this enthusiasm might be totally drained this time next week. but if i can keep it up, you'll be seeing a brand new melanie pretty soon.

caws love friday

gosh it's been a while since we've had some old fashioned caws appreciation in these parts. oh my, he gets even more beautiful and more stylish as he gets older. and according to myspace there's a caws-child now. can you imaging how gorgeous the offspring of this man would be?

allan's sound investments
i'm so proud of these things. the indie cds. the framed nada surf singles. the dvds of cult films and irreverent sit-coms. the biographies of australian criminals and bogus travel diaries. they define me as a person so much better than words ever could.
here's some pictures of my view. then i need to get to sleep!

things that i am looking forward to in 2008
-health. i am thinking about joining a gym again. and at least with my mum here to motivate me, i should give it a good go. i'm also happy about eating healthily and cutting soft drinks out of my diet.
-planning my trip overseas in 2009.
-good vibes, v festival and the chaser's live show,
i feel so optimistic about this year ahead.
