colour is its own reward

when crowded house announced that they were reforming and going on tour, i was apprehensive about seeing them. i thought that there was no way it could be the same as before. but i wanted to go for the 13 year old melanie who never got to see her favourite band before they broke up.

and then i forgot to get tickets for the first show, so i figured that seeing them at live earth would be enough. but i'm so glad that i got tickets for the second show.

it was just magical. there were so many brilliant moments. everyone around me yelling the second "whaddya know?" from mean to me. the impromptu version of it's only natural. the tea towels on sale at the merch stand. all the grey haired people around me getting down to distant sun.

so many songs i thought i'd never get to hear live. like when you come and love you til the day i die.

and fingers of love. one of my top three favourite crowded house songs. i closed my eyes and listened to mark hart's guitar sing like i was the only person in the room.

as neil played the opening bars of four seasons in one day he said to the crowd "sing it for paul. sing it for paul hester." and i welled up with tears. in fact i'm doing it again now. if only he could've been here to do italian plastic for us.

oh and davey lane was a very good replacement for liam finn as back up guitarist. he is looking good these days.

and i must mention augie march finishing with one crowded hour. it was haunting and beautiful and they were a perfect choice for opening act
