furnishing houses into homes

there was just an ad on tv for bunnings warehouse. it featured one of the employees saying stuff like "zomg this young girl came in and wanted to build a bookcase. she had no idea. she didn't know how to use any tools or anything. but we helped her out and now she's all pro at bookcases. that's right, service and life tips with a smile here at bunnings."

what. the. fuck? i get that if you're some kind of home handyman, or have a basic grasp of how power tools work, that you might want to have a weekend project of making a nice book case. but if you have no fucking clue, why would this thought even enter your brain?

i'm pretty sure i speak for most young females in sydney when i say that if i realise that i need a new bookcase, my first thought is not "to the lumber yard!!1!" it's "eek! a trip to ikea. maybe i can also get some ice cube trays in cute shapes, and some candle holders, and a new rug, and oh my!"
